2013 Donations: Generosity put to great use!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of many in 2013, we already see a tremendous difference in the lives of at-risk, vulnerable children in Africa, Los Angeles, and Dallas!

In Lusaka, Zambia, a new water well has been drilled, and is up and running on the campus of Destiny Community School. This well will provide clean water to all the students—most of them coming from the surrounding, poverty-stricken compound of Matero. We are so thankful that these children will finally have clean water at their disposal, and not have to travel miles a day to pick up a bucket of water for their family. This is the first step of renovating and expanding Destiny Community School. The blueprints have been drawn up and we anticipate ground breaking on 5 new classrooms within the next month!

In Los Angeles, Sharefest has expanded is Youth Development Academy to Patton High School in Harbor City. On February 13, after-school classes began for numerous deserving students in the areas of Leadership Development, Art Education, Service Learning, Physical Education, and CAHSEE Prep Math & English. Continuation schools are highly effective in fostering a small-school learning environment for students who have fallen behind academically or don’t fit into a traditional learning environment. Chad Mayer, Sharefest executive director, shares their gratitude: “Thanks to the support of Kershaw’s Challenge, we can now provide much needed programming for students at Patton High School. We can’t wait to see how these classes help prepare them to be successful not only in school, but as future leaders in our communities.” What an amazing blessing to partner with Sharefest!

In Dallas, our 2013 donation made a significant dent in the fundraising goal towards Mercy Street’s Field of Dreams. We are grateful to partner with this incredible organization…and there’s more excitement to come! Thank you for helping us chip away at this goal! (Below is the little league field rendering we hope to execute as soon as remaining funds are raised!)

We have said it many times before, but we could not accomplish these amazing, life-changing projects without your help! Thank you so much for supporting Kershaw’s Challenge. These children deserve opportunities to thrive and it is our joy to play a role in blessing them.

Stay tuned! We are in the process of wrapping up details for our 2014 Challenge. We are excited to partner with you again to accomplish some really amazing projects.

Destiny Community School is going up!

We are so excited to share with you this incredibly joyful news! After discussing our plans to renovate and add on to Destiny Community School in Lusaka, Zambia, we have solidified our plans and will begin construction soon!

You all have been instrumental in this dream to create a thriving educational environment for really vulnerable and impoverished children in the Matero compound. We could not wait to share this news with you first!

Because of you generosity and support, hundreds of children who have not had a proper learning facility will now have 5 NEW CLASSROOMS on campus! This will allow each grade level to actually have their own classroom! Can you imagine learning in the same room with other grade levels and lessons going on at the same time?! It's near impossible to retain anything. We are overwhelmed that we will be able to build 5 brand new classrooms with our 2013 donations.

We have hired the best contractor in Lusaka to build a durable, sustainable building with 5 new classrooms in it. He has given us really detailed blueprints and budgets for this project. He is extremely reasonable, and we are confident in his ability to build classrooms that will last a long time.

This week, we will begin drilling a well on Destiny's campus so that every child who attends this school will have access to clean water. What a blessing! These children can travel miles a day to reach clean water, and we will be able to serve the Matero community with this water well.

Lastly, we are committed to given these precious children a top class education. So we have put all remaining funds towards teachers' salaries so that we are able to hire teachers with high degrees of learning. Our hope is to hire & pay the salaries for at least 2 private school teachers.

Friends, we are overflowing with joy. Because of your support, these children will gain a great perspective for their future through their education. We will create a safe haven for these kids to retreat to daily, and be poured into spiritually and educationally. These children deserve the best, and with these new classrooms and campus renovations, we plan on giving them just that.

These children are the future of Zambia. And praise the Lord, we have people like you who believe in them too.

Destiny Kids... the new building will go is right against this wall.

Pre-school is taught in the church building. They will now get their own classroom.

These kids are the best, and deserve the best!

2013 Challenge Wrap-Up!

We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!

As we look back at 2013, we are overwhelmed by all that has been accomplished through Kershaw's Challenge, and the supporters that have come alongside us to serve children worldwide. Thanks to you, children in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Zambia will be given opportunities they never dreamed of getting. Because of your generosity, these children will grow up to be leaders & know the importance of giving back to those in need. This is the beginning of a great ripple effect, and we are humbled to be standing here with you.

Our 2013 Challenge will end on December 31st, and all our funds we have raised this past year will immediately hit the ground in LA, Dallas & Africa. 100% of your donation will go straight into the hands of 3 unbelievable non-profits, and begin the work of projects that will make life-changing differences in the community. We will begin building a school in Zambia that will serve a community of thousands of impoverished children. We will begin the plans of building a baseball field in inner-city Dallas for kids who need a safe place and activity to participate in after school. And we will start an after-school program for kids in Los Angeles through a continuation highschool to help them graduate and be productive citizens.

We could do this without you. You play such a significant role in our ministry, and our goals to create a better life for those in need. We have seen the fruits of being a part of something so much greater than ourselves, and would like to extend the invitation to you to join us. Being a part of the Lord's work is a life-giving, and we will never be the same because of it.

So as you wrap up 2013, we extend an invitation to you to join our Challenge. It's never too late to start giving back. One day at a time, one dollar at a time, lives are being changed. Leaders are being raised. And because of you, this world will be a better place.

God Bless,

Clayton & Ellen Kershaw
